We have a flock of 8, 2 year old hens. Over the past two years I have made a number of observations about them and am wondering if others have flocks that have a certain routine they go through.

They have an order that they usually come out of the coop in every morning, and the very last hen to emerge each day is our EE Zilla who is always the last out.
At night Zilla is the first to go in, I figure to get the prime roosting spot. Then the others start to go in usually one at a time. The last two to always go in for the night are our Austalorp, and finally our Dominique who will lolly gag until the very end.
They all roost in the same spots each night also.

Just wondering if others have noticed this in their flocks. I know they have a "pecking order" but it's just very funny to watch this each day.

Hmm... I dont really know. I cant even tell the pecking order for my chickens.

they sleep in dif. spots every night and dont have any kind of routine. But, their lead chicken was attacked last Sept. and killed. Usually she was the first one in the coop.

I have a free ranging flock based in front yard I watch closely. Flock breaks up at night to roost in two separate locations about 120 feet apart. Location on front porch occupied by two American games, one hen and one rooster while the other roost is occupied by 4 dominique and 3 red jungle fowl hens. Rooster always comes down first by about 5 minutes and he goes strait to other roost where he does all sorts of funky strutting like nothing he does during the day. He covers (mates with) all the hens as they come down. The hen (actually his sister) from his roost come down and he mates with her. The whole group goes waterer, tanks up, then goes to feeding station. They then begin foraging to north of feeding station until about noon. In reality, most of time spent in heavy cover. Then they start making way to front of house where nest cites are located and hens peal off to deposit eggs. Those not laying eggs and rooster go off into pasture and forage heavily after something along stream. Hens still peal off individually to deposit eggs. They do more but much of that a function of weather and what rival flock is doing.
