Flooded barn!

No pictures yet, but we had the first truly nice day of the year today. It was about 50 degrees, and the sun made several appearances. It was nice enough to
Melt some of the snow/ice pack by the barn. The water went straight into the barn! It didn’t do this last year! It looks like it leaked through cracks in the main door. We’ve dug a trench (the best we could as everything is still mostly frozen) to divert new water (there’s still a ton of snow and ice to melt) and bailed out as much water as possible.

The ducks’ stall is still dry. They just have an indoor pool now. Daphne’s not complaining!

Anyways, this wasn’t in the plans! Stay tuned!

P.S. Daphne would like to name the new body of water “Lake Daphne”. Really original

All food is kept elevated in metal cans, so it is safe!

Sorry to hear about the flood! I hate having to take emergency water diversion measures.

We had high winds that blew down fencing and ripped off shingles today.

I’m sorry you are having this problem.

We have some flooding in our area, too, with rivers and streams overflowing their banks due to snow melt. We are using sandbags to keep melting ice water from flowing into our garage. We had tube sand in the back of our truck for the winter and it makes good water barriers.

We have some flooding in our area, too, with rivers and streams overflowing their banks due to snow melt. We are using sandbags to keep melting ice water from flowing into our garage. We had tube sand in the back of our truck for the winter and it makes good water barriers.

I hope that you get through the flooding ok and with no damage! I’ve got to go pick up sandbags, though probably not until tomorrow AM as I will be busy until work time bailing out the barn!

oh boy. Warm overnight + thunderstorm = disaster! I’ve been bailing out the barn all morning and have now angrily started the big spring clean out, although I don’t have time to finish before work. The flooding is horrible!

I know exactly how you're feeling! We've had the same issue with warm weather melting our snow and ice and we've had 3 days of rain on top of that! Our coop was underwater Wednesday evening with no where for the water to go...thankfully yesterday was super windy (50+mph all day) so that took care of a lot of water. The frost in the ground also went out so now the water is disappearing quickly!

I hope you are able to find a good solution to help with the water! And just think, you won't have to do your spring cleaning later now!

Thank you! We're all fine (though rooster tractors were actually pushed a few feet by the wind)...but others weren't so fortunate. I drove by a metal building today that had actually been flipped over by those winds. Yikes!

I’m glad your flooding is receding! The barn is clearly going to be an issue for a bit. I spent 2.5 hours this morning removing water and cleaning, then took a break when it started to rain again. When I went back to lock up the ducks prior leaving for work, all of the water was back! My husband worked on it some more when he got home from work, and Lake Daphne has been downgraded to a small pond for the moment. It is going to be colder starting tonight for several days, so we may get a reprieve. At any rate, now that I’ve started the Big Spring Cleanout, I might as well finish it this weekend!

It turns out, no matter how clean I thought I was keeping things in the dead of winter, there was (and still is) still sooo much to be cleaned! “Lake Daphne” is now a small, yet very stinky, puddle. I pulled out and replaced everything from the stall (7 wheelbarrow loads), and just finished cleaning their stinky rubber mats in the tub as I can’t use any water anywhere near the barn. Ducks were /are upset as they hate it when I rearrange anything in their stall. Also, they enjoyed “Lake Daphne”.

I’m taking a break while the mats dry, then I’ll get back to business!
