I free range my 3 ducks (I lost one to the wild....I think it joined another ducky family)

However I'm about two feet from a river that's nearly to it's banks...we're expected to get 3 more inches of rain. the coop is attached to the barn which in the worst cases had been flooded out before. the ducks have no interest in the barn as it's really an old toolshead my landlord uses for just that. my "house" is attached to the barn, the first floor is an unfinished former bricked up garage, I live on the second floor.....safe from water

The last time we were flooded it was due to burocracy and the people in charge were fired. Haven't had any problems in 3 years or more.

Now onto the problem...how do I keep my ducks (10 weeks old, one who can't walk fast or fly) safe in a flood? I know they swim, but they' can't always swim. I'm trying to raise their doghouse on cinderblocks but it may literally be an island.

So worried...have any of you ever delt with semi-devistating floods? What do you do with your flock?

Oh, my thankfully i have not. do you have a crate you can move them into in an emergency? i'd be inclined do to that.. they could be washed away or sadly even drown due to exhaustion.

None of the land belonging to me is available...it could all be flooded, as well as over an acre of my landlord's land, the only area that wouldn't get flooded is my landlord's own house and garden, and while he approved of the ducks, he dosn't want them living near his house.

I have raised their coop several inches for now and hope the rain holds off. If they stay in their coop I can likely crate them in the end, though I will have 3 very unhappy smelly ducks for a couple of days

Better than drowned or washed away ducks.

I would bring them inside if they were in real danger... three ducks is a little messy, but manageable.
