Floor in coop/run? (Pic of my desert coop)

We have a coop/run combo. The coop floor (top) is constructed of cedar planks. The run (bottom) is lined with hardware cloth (and buried hardware cloth on the bottom), then filled with dirt/sand. It is very easy to keep clean - scoop. I don't care for pine shavings or straw as it is messy, IMO. With our very warm climate, the sand works well. -best of luck on your coop/run floor!

Do you put anything on the coop floor for bedding? I think we'll go with the sand on the run floor it seems a lot easier to keep clean. Thanks for the ideas

We left the coop floor as is. There are four nest boxes (made of cedar fence posts) with a perch/roost bar and platform over them. I purchased hay to use there, but haven't. They had fluffy white towels in their brooder when they were chicks......and I placed the same towels on the platform where they roost (once I moved them to the coop).

It is very unconventional, but they love 'em! I change them each morning, wash 'em on hot with a small bit of bleach to clean, then dry. -ridiculously rotten chickens with mountains of laundry for me - but, it stays nice and clean. The wood can be scraped/scooped easily for cleaning, as well. (haven't any mites or bugs around with the towels)

This is part of the 'top floor'. One chick is on the roost (and a nice towel is folded on the platform behind her.) I began placing fluffy hand towels in the nest boxes, also. Since about 18 weeks of age, the gals have given me an egg a day

!! (and, free of any mess, poop, or stuff stuck to it. -am able to take them straight to the fridge) Again, I wash towels daily, but it is worth it, IMO. -there's your eccentric chicken bedding example o' the day.....
