Hi. Looking at my in-law's coop and run and I was hoping to come up w/ a better idea for happier chickens. They have a nice size coop and run...but they've had chickens there for years-the floor is dirt inside and out...they never get to free range. Couldn't we hack down a ton of overgrown weeds and grasses and lay them on the floor of the run? They could snack on them and break them down? Is there any harm? They won't use pine shavings or straw or anything on the floor-so I was thinking that this idea might make for happier girls:) What do you think? Is there any harm?

I am sure that the chickens would like it. Mine have a ball when I throw weeds into the run. They also free range for a few hours each day, so that does not seem to matter.

Whatever they don't eat gets turned under and decomposes. No muss, no fuss.

Chris
