Floor of the coop?

How should i make the floor for a coop?
Can i do wire flooring?
Should i do a solid floor?
How much higher should the door be?
Can someone explain Deep litter method?
I have some extra tile(The fake sheet kind), would this help?

Someone told me that tile is a good addition if the floor is wood because it'll be easier to clean.

And then - here's how dumb I am, right? I'm thinking - where can I get some tile for that on the cheep...and then I was sitting on the toilet and I was staring at the boxes sitting there of NEW TILE for that room. Hello? Just short of 88 square feet of vinyl tile in there (yes, I have an unusually large bathroom - but it has the stack set W/D in there, too) is coming up...bet I can find 16 pieces that will go down in the henhouse with some mastic. Sheesh. My own stupidity floors me sometimes.

The best floor is either cement or solid wood and cover it with vinyl/linoleum. The vinyl makes it really easy to clean and keeps the wood from getting wet.

You do not want to have wire floors - it will damage your chickens feet.

I have my pophole door about 15 inches above the floor of the coop. The chickens easily jump up to go out and I have a ramp on the outside for them to go back in.

The DLM usually uses pine shavings (but you can use other bedding - I personally don't like other stuff like straw but some people love it.). You add about 3 to 4 inches of shavings and then, depending on how many chickens in what size space you have, you stir it up every week or two or three and add another couple of inches of shavings on top of it. Some people do this for a whole year before completely cleaning it out and starting over. Some people do it for six months or three months. You will learn what works best for your situation as times goes by. If the bedding ever gets wet you want to shovel out the wet and replace with dry bedding right away.

Linoleum is great, you'll love having it on the floor as it's so easy to clean up.

No, don't use wire on the ground. Chickens love to scratch and it would hurt their feet if there is wire on the ground. You can, and should, however, bury wire fencing down around the edges of your fence. Go down at least 15" and that will keep predators from digging under.​

what about no floor on the ground? Will it let out to much heat?

I will probably use the linoleum if i still have it because o want to raise it off the ground to maximize my space and so i don't have to bend over.

I have linoleum and it's great! Easy to clean - the poop rarely sticks to it if you use pine shavings. I have a 9 x 13 coop and I started with 2 bags from Tractor supply. Add a little bit each week or so until it's about 3-5 inches. In winter I like to have more so they can snuggle into the bedding. Plus it stays really fresh when you throw in cracked corn or scratch grains, then they stir it up with the pecking for the food.

I vote to raise the floor - it will be easier to clean if you can simply scrape out the old bedding for cleaning and put in new.
