Hi everyone.

I’ve successfully managed to hatch 16 jumbo Coturnix and so far (fingers crossed) at nearly 3 weeks old, they are doing well.

I’m just in the process of building their outdoor pen. The floor space is 6’3” by 3’.
I have some 1/2“ x ½” galvanised square weldmesh that I was going to use for the floor, but I’m worried now that it may be too thin at 19g.
So will the 19g ½” x ½” be ok for jumbo Coturnix or will it cut their feet?
Alternatively the only 16g I can find round here is ¾” x ¾”, will the squares be too big?

19g wire is 0.912mm thick (0.0359”)
16g is 1.29mm thick (0.0508”) I’m not sure how it’s labelled in the US :)

Thanks, Ali.

1/2"x 1/2" or 1/2"x 1" is the most common wire used for flooring & most is at least 16ga wire, the 3/4"x 3/4" is to big, IMO

Many thanks for your reply. I'll just keep looking until i can find some 16g at least, 1/2 inch. I don't know why it's so hard to find.

You also need to run another layer of wire.a few inches apart from the bottom to prevent other creature grab their legs.
