I'm trying to decide on a flooring material for the chicken house. I figure 1-inch thick oak or hemlock planks would be pretty water/rot resistant. What have you used?

Good they redsix, I just joined the forum. I have access to wooden pallets and I use them for the base of my chicken coop. I'm still in the process of building my new coop on a base of treated plywood on top of the pallets. We had luck with that in the past chicken coop. It was wiped out by a tornado in 2011. It did us well for about four years. Unfortunately, the before the tornado someone paid a night time call at the chicken house and stole all 30 of my hens. I'm just now getting back into the chickens with New Hampshire Red chickens, the chicks will be delivered in about a week. I've built an eight by eight coop on skids to be able to move it around 20 acre farm.My chickens will be "Free Range".

I'm new to this forum as well. That's exactly what I am planning to build, an 8 by 8 building on 16 foot. long skids including a fenced in area. I was a little concerned using pressure treated wood, though. I was afraid the chickens might get chemicals off it onto their feet and then track it onto the eggs.

That should make for a tough heavy duty floor. For my coop, I used 3/4" plywood, covered and sealed with a heavy coat of Blackjack #57 rubberized roof coat (From Lowes).
