Three weeks ago a chicken wandered up into our yard. She was missing her feathers on her head. We weren't quite sure what to do but with our neighbors having quite a few cats and one cat of our own we knew we couldn't leave her outside alone. We have no idea where she came from or what happened to her. We asked around and no one knew anything. So we kept her. She is a buff laced polish chicken. I have never had a chicken before, the thought never crossed my mind, but after a little bot with her we just had to keep her as we are animal lovers. I have done some reading on caring for chickens but would love any advice. And I have some questions, not sure where to ask them though.
I am happy to be here and look forward to talking with everyone.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Congratulations on the chicken that chose you! You want to get her some friends. You should stick with her own breed. Polish tend to get picked on by other chickens that do not have the head feathers.
You'll want to get her started on a complete chicken feed. I recommend Flock Raiser with oyster shell on the side. She will also need a secure coop where she can roost safely at night. Please visit the Coop and Run forum for ideas on how to make it predator-proof.
