Hello!
I am trying to post on the Florida thread so hopefully I am successful in that with this post! I am new to this site.

My name is Ellen and I live presently in Miami fl. with my husband and son.
We tried to find a home with a couple of acres so that we could have chickens and a more natural lifestyle in general, but the agricultural area here (the Redland) has proved to be out of our price range completely. We are now looking to move to Central Florida as it seems as if in some areas the prices are much better than here.

So , I have been researching homes, areas, and chickens! One thing that has got me very confused is the issue of having roosters. Here in the Redland area it is no big deal, you hear roosters all the time:). I would definitely want to have a rooster as well as hens. I have tried to research this issue online, but it has been very confusing to me. I understand that once you find a property that you can call zoning and ask about that specific address. But at the moment what I would like to do is to be looking for homes in areas where the probability of being allowed to have roosters etc will be good. We don't want to spend a lot of time looking online or in person at areas that will probably not allow this freedom.

My husband is looking for work in Orlando (his job here has an office in downtown Orlando). So we don't want to be terribly far from Orlando. Hopefully with traffic, 45 minutes or less if possible?

I would so appreciate if any of you Central Floridians can give me some guidance as to where to look for a home. A place that is a rural/agricultural area where you can have chickens, roosters, maybe goats, gardens, dogs. Basically where you have freedom to grow/raise what ever you would like to.

We are planning a trip for next month so that we can drive around and see different areas. Cost is a big factor, we are hoping to find a small home with 1-2 acres (or more :)) in the 250,000-ish range.

I have never raised chickens, but friends in the Redland area have shown me their coops etc. This is a wonderful site for information!
I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you SO much, Ellen
