Where did you get the eggs? It does kinda have that look. I think it's probably just where the embryo's blood ring stops (I can't think of what it's usually called right now, sorry) and it's just a little spot where you can see the albumen. It will probably hatch totally fine, whatever that thing is should not cause any complications. It's in the pointy end, correct?
We found the egg abandoned by the river side, so not exactly sure what it is... early on I thought it could be twins because I thought I saw two seperate movements... for ages it remained the same size but now it’s doubled in size which is what has me wondering, and yes it’s at the pointy end..
Ohhh. It's probably a wild duck. If you're in the US you'll have to take it to a rehab center if it hatches. They're illegal to be in posession of.
Im in Australia, so it’ll depend on the type of duck as to whether it needs to go to a wildlife centre. The kids wanted to see if it’d hatch, and I was surprised it started to grow! Thats handy to know about it looking separate, my incubator is a no brand yellow lidded clear plastic base one, I’ve incubated chickens and quails in it before, but it’s not actually a great one as humidity is hard to keep stable. But this is my first “duck” egg.
Ok! You might be able to keep it then. Have you checked the temp with a calibrated thermometer?
Hopefully.. I haven’t this time, but did in the past and the temp was good, I should find it again and test it, but when I open it, it feels like the right temp and not hotter or colder over time.. can it affect the odd cell growth? Or would that be more a humidity thing?
Oh, you better calibrate a thermometer and check the temp then. It's ridiculous, but every time you unplug your incubator and then plug it back in your incubator changes. It would affect the growth of the embryo. Yours looks a bit small for 22 days, so I just wondered.
I will thanks, yes I wondered, it’s been very slow growth, I couldn’t actually see it for 11 days, (except veins), I’m wondering if it’s not due to hatch till 35/38 days?
