Fly control

What would you all recommend for fly control in our coop and run? I just read about diatomaceous earth. Would lye work or would that harm the hens and chicks? Right now I have a thick layer of straw on the floor of the coop and the hens have kicked a lot of straw into the run.

There is a post on fly control. Zip-loc baggies & vanilla car scent. The first works, every convenient store in Arkansas has one on the entrance door. The 2nd one, I'm about to try.

DE is working pretty well for me especially in the coop. I just sprinkle it in the bedding every once in a while and stir it up. Also, sprinkle over the run and it will help there also.
