I have now had this conversation with several of my friends. Do chickens eat flies and their eggs? Every one I talked to seems to have a different opinion. My chickens free-range in with my 10 sheep and my guard donkey (On 3/4 acre), so there is plenty of manure and flies to go around

Absolutely! I round up my chickens a few times a week for a trip to the manure pile and paddocks. They rip thru the poop piles and eat all the fly larvae, eggs, grain and hay bits, and weed seeds. It makes a huge difference in the amount of flies I notice on the property. As a bonus my one goofy flighty TB is not as spooky with sudden movements anymore with the chickens always around.

I have a Chicken Killer GSD who has raided my brooder 3 times, killed about 10 chicks and ate 1 (only because I came upon the gruesome scene

otherwise she would have ate them all I am sure). Now mind you that's the same dog who has no interest in sheep herding and is totally kid safe

I have caught my pitbull with my cockatiel in mouth , I yelled at her not to hurt my bird and she gently sat the bird at my feet uninjured. Then the bird started riding her back ever chance she got . The dog would just look at me and tremble knowing she was not allowed to eat the bird. Suzy Q was such a great dog. I miss her. (RIP)

My backyard is covered with flys also hovering about 2 inches above. I have lots of grass and don't want to kill it just get rid of the flys. I spray down the yard daily with the hose so there are not clumps of poo lying around. I am just at a loss as to what to do without killing my grass or poisoning my chickens. Can anyone help?
