I recently added 3 hens to my flock. They have been in quarantine with the rooster that I bought the girls for. I've raised him and he's been waiting on a few of his own girls.
Anyway, 2 of the girls had pale combs, gasping, snorting, head shake, poor appetites, after a few days. I added vitamins, electrolytes and started them a few days ago on safeguard for gapeworm. I got the one for goats so I just gave them pea sized amount direct in their beaks.
The one healthy girl still seems good with no treatment, perky, eating, good color.
My rooster has hoarse voice, decreased appetite but it may be from not being able to see out of his swollen eye. None of the hens with him have this.
I started him on the safeguard 3 days ago, also DE with bentonite clay since his feathers seemed rough looking and I noticed small mites on me after handling him. (Not red but a dark gray or black but very small) I also have him some doxy crushed up with coconut oil, direct to beak.
Here is pic of his eye. Any other suggestions or advice? He was so robust and healthy I feel so bad these girls got him sick. It's only the one eye

It sounds like the new birds may have been carriers of a respiratory disease such as MG. I would make sure that you are giving enough of the doxycycline since it can treat symptoms. If it is MG, that’s a chronic lifelong disease. It will make carriers of your whole flock.

When worming with SafeGuard, you should give them 1/4 ml (0.23 ml) per pound orally for 5 days to treat the harder worms such as gapeworms or capillary. If the birds are around 5 pounds, give them 1.25 ml. A “pea size dose” is outdated.

What type of doxycycline do you have? Dosage is 20-25 mg per kilogram daily. A kilogram is 2.2 pounds. Egg withdrawal time is 30 days.
80 MG? Wow, that's more than my cat or almost as much as my dog at 60lbs needed. I only gave 25 MG.
Thank you for the response!

I did give a bit more since I was using the applicator direct to their mouth since bread and fruit bribe wasn't working and some fast hens ate it first.
That's a 1 1/4 tsp how do you recommend giving it? The paste sticks to their mouth so much

I will be so sick if these new 3 have MG. My flock has been super healthy for years.
