Bird seed might be cheaper than scratch grains. Check the bag and look for "Product of the U.S.A." or anything that indicates that the grain was actually grown here. The reason you want it grown here is because most grains that are imported have to be irradiated when they are imported. From my understanding, after they are irradiated they will not sprout.

Yes, you can grow, barley and corn easily. If you are in an area where the temperature is hight just take care of the heat.

In the case of barley, soak for 6 hours and then spread over any tray which has a hole in it, so water does not stay for long.

You have to water the tray after every 4 hours so barley always gets wet but not dipped in water.

You will get your result in 7 days.

To speed up, you can wrap your seeds in a vacuum. Like place in a deep tray, then wrap with plastic. within 24 hours spread over the tray, it will give you result in 5 days.
