Food and Water

We just moved our girls out to their coop yesterday and I was wondering what others have done. I brought their water and food and placed it in the run when they were in there during the day and then moved it into the hen house last night when I put them up. Right now it's a small water and food dispenser but I was planning on getting them larger dispensers when they get bigger. Do you keep two, one for outside and ones for inside or are they okay without at night??? What is typical?

We keep the food out in the pen and have water available in the coop and in the pen. As a rule, once they're in for the night, they just roost and sleep. But we don't always get them out right when they wake, so we make the water available...critters (including) us can do without food for a while, but water's essential.

I keep my flocks food in the coop all the time. I don't want the feeder to attract other birds and I want it to stay dry. I have 5 gal nipple waterer outside in run and a 3 gal waterer in the coop from spring till fall. In the winter they only have one waterer available in the coop.

I keep the food in the coop to keep it dry and away from any moochers. Water is available in the run where any spillage simply soaks into the sand.

I don't know that they need water at night, but they are all over it water first thing in the morning.
