The commercial laying strains. They've been bred for decades with feed conversion in mind. This is what the commercial industry wants and gets with these light weight, quick growing, quick to Point of Lay, and abundant layers. Unfortunately, for a small holder, these birds don't often "last" more than a couple of years. That fact matters little to the industry, as they turn of over their flocks quickly.
