Hi,

I had EXACTLY the same concern about 8 weeks ago when the bag of DE that I ordered from a feed store arrived without the "Food Grade" label on it. I called the Perma-Guard people, and the woman on the phone explained the whole deal. Yes, it is food grade--go ahead and give it to the chickens. She even told me about some recent research that found that if you're raising layers, the percentage of DE to feed should only be .75% (not the 2% on the bag). The researchers found that too much DE lowered the egg production.

The other thing she told me is that they had one run of paper bags that had the label you show in your photo--the one without the Food Grade mark--and that the expense of re-doing the bags was too high. So people who order Perma-Guard DE in the future should get the properly marked bags.
