Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide

Has anyone ever heard of giving chickens deluted hydrogen peroxide in their water? I have heard of farmers putting it in their ponds for fish & letting their cattle drink from that source. I have heard it is good for fish & cattle but don't know about chickens.

I would think that farmers putting it in their ponds would be to add more oxygen into the water, make it more bacteria free, etc. I know that when you shock a koi pond the remedy if you over do it is hydrogen peroxide as it instantly adds oxygen and stops the potassium permagate oxidation. I would be curious on where you can get food grade peroxide. Are you looking for something to make your water safer? Lots of people clean with peroxide and water. They sell toothpaste with peroxide in it. You can gargle with peroxide. I wouldn't think in small amounts it would hurt the chickens.

I buy our Food Grade Peroxide at our local health food store. We us it for a lot of different things in our household.

I use it all of the time for cleaning mixed with my favorite drops of essential oil. I also use some in the chicken waters in summer to clean them out versus bleach, I know I have residue from the peroxide in filling the waters up and my chickens aren't hurt by it. I would say a teaspoon/tablespoon to a gallon of water is not going to hurt your chics. Peroxide has been around and used for centuries. Peroxide will heal wounds that antibiotics won't touch.

So what would be the goal, or the supposed benefit, of adding peroxide to their drinking water?

Personally I think it's better to just give them clean, fresh water and not go over board with adding all the extra this and that to their feed and water.
