Food!

Hello! My ducklings will be 6 weeks old on Monday! Now they absolutely without a doubt love peas so much! I’ve tried giving them spinach and romain lettuce but no they won’t eat all of that but they will eat every last pea what other foods can ducks their age have? What food will they love just as much as peas? What are good foods with niacin in it?


Also,if someone could tell me how they give niacin to their ducks? Like do you do a caplet of it and put it in their food or water? Do you give them a vitamin that contains niacin? I give my ducklings durvet vitamins and electrolytes which contains a lot of different vitamins including 22.5mg of niacin. I want to make sure they are getting enough niacin and so far these vitamins have worked pretty good, but I want a back up solution because currently the store I buy these from are all out of them which isn’t good for my ducks not to be getting this in their water right now.

Good quality Feed is of course at top of the list all other is considered treats and should only be 10% of their daily food

What brand of feed on they are? Depending on the feed and the breed of duck they may not need too much supplemental niacin. Most people on here use Nutrional or brewer's yeast for extra niacin. I've never heard of the durvet vitamins/electrolytes you mentioned. I feel pretty comfortable most of my ducks hit their niacin requirements on their Purina duck pellets. I have a couple Pekin who need a little extra though, and for them there's a vitamin b complex (also from durvet) that I use that comes widely recommended on here. You just squirt 1mL over their favorite treat and feed it to them that way.

As far as treats go, they love peas like you mentioned, mealworms, raddish tops, grasshoppers, watermelon, and any leafy greens really. Haven't given them much beyond that.

I will have to try grapes and see how they do with them! They haven’t been put with the chickens yet so I have yet to see how that turns out!

My ducks go crazy for edamame and peas. They also love basil. I have no idea why but they love it.
