hi i have hens for last 7-9 yrs now and this yr i decide to raise 4 baby chicks and it my first time doing so. now i have a qq or 2 or more.
i have med food for the chicks that are alomst goneand it is only 25lbs. they are almost out of and like to know if they can have stare food that i plan to use for duckling and turkey. i also wanted to know if i can soften up some pellet food in case they cant use the starer food. would this be helpful since i am very new at rasing chicka this yr. any help would be great for me before i leave this weekend to leave the chicks in my kids hands. i want to give them right info before i leave.thks

I am a first timer too...but I would have to guess that you need to get them more chick starter...I have 14 that are 5 weeks old...they are eating chick starter, and will be for a few more weeks. Hope this helps. :)

Welcome to BYC.
Turkey starter has a higher protein percentage then chick starter. You can use it if you cut the protein level down by feeding other foods. Layer has more calcium in it then the chicks need. I'd feed it only as an emergency option. Layer is not recommended if they are under 16 weeks. You can crush the pellets or soak them to break them down.
