For Future Reference

The playpen I've got my almost-4-week Ideal Dozen in is about 2 feet tall and I'm going to have to put netting over it because I've had several fly up to the top rail already on their first evening excursion.

I had originally bought this thinking it would make a meatie pen. Do young Cornish X fly at all or are they essentially grounded from the beginning?

Mine were never super inclined to fly. Transported in a storage tote many times with no top at multiple ages and never had one fly out. I don't know if I would trust them in their 24/7 though with 2 ft walls. I want to say it will be fine, but have not tried it myself and do not want to be responsible for any escapees.

Mine started flappy flappy and quickly grounded their asses with their non stop eating.

OTOH, I have 4 week old (not CornishX) chicks who flap like mad and walk up the side of a 4' snow fence...

Thanks. I will have to consider some kind of lid -- both for it's current use and for the future.
