My very large too "Roaster" and I have a special relationship. He hates my family, but seems a little possessive of me. My husband has this theory that Roaster believes I'm one of his hens.
He does think you are one of his hens, and he will get more aggressive to others as he matures. He's a huge rooster from the look of him - they can do severe damage flogging with their wings and coming at people with spurs at the ready. You have to shift roles so he learns you are ALPHA not him. Roosters want to keep all their hens in line, and it's not going to be something to enjoy.
I know with large caged birds they say "never let the bird roost on you so he is higher than your head." That makes him think he is KING.
Thanks to everyone for making me feel welcome. I got responses from all over the country. This is only my second year with chickens and I have 18 now. 4 including my Roo who I think are Sussex, 2 RIR, 4 offspring of the Sussex hens and Roaster hatched in my school's incubator and 8 teenagers (5 reds, 3 blacks) bought as red or black pullets. The little Sussex pullets are aggressive like their dad.
