I have 5 - 5 week old chicks. They are all beautiful mutts, I believe a few are part silkie because some have 5 toes. Two have single combs and 3 have rose combs. My questions are....What is the earliest age you can tell if they are roos or pullets?...And...what type of pictures should I take when the time comes to make it easier for you to sex them? Head, side shot, legs--all close-ups so you can see combs and back feathers? I'd like to do this right the first time. Thanks

It really depends a lot on he breed when you can tell its sex. When you get a picture of them try to get one of the head. That is what tells me the most. Then try to get one of the whole body, like a side view. Sometimes it helps to get a group shot. That way you can compare them.

i say a variety of shots and silkies can be hard to sex until they get older and it really depends on the breed they are mixed with
