Do any of you have a problem with impacted or sour crops? I am thinking of putting some of our cut grass into the run for the chickens to scratch through, but I have concerns with them getting impacted crops from it.

I have been doing the grass clipping thing for years and never had an issue yet. Only your retarded chickens are in danger. Just separate them from the rest of the flock and you will have no problems..

I put clippings in as well.. no issues so ar. they love it... ! We have lots of leaves that gather around the fence.. I "mow" some of them too, and put it in a big pile. They love to scratch around and "landscape" with it...

I keep a close eye on what's been mowed and won't give them the taller, thicker grass. If we're mowing the "decent" part of the yard that has the thinner bladed grass, then I'll put it in the run. However, we also have a mulching lawnmower that cuts it up even further.

Keeping an eye on the type grass and using a mulching mower has worked out okay for us. Fingers crossed!

Thank you for your replies. My neighbor really enjoys mowing his lawn and ours so he keeps up on it. We shouldn't have any issues with longer grass getting in there. I will give it a try and hope none of my chickens have any issues with it.

Would be best if there have been no chemical fertilizers, pesticides or insecticides put on the lawns.

Hi, my girls are still young so I cut everything I give them into short pieces.
