For those who have used vinyl flooring in the coop...

hmmm...Im going to be ordering a shed within the next month or so, and I was going to order it without a floor, to just set on the ground, but now Im wondering if I wouldnt be better off getting a floor, even tho its wood, and just covering it thickly with shavings. Maybe even cover the wood with vinyl. That would keep critters from being able to dig under also. hmmm...Im glad I havent ordered it yet, it seems each day I think of something that I would want different.

We have a dirt floor here in east texas it works ok they do dig in it and we put down hay.
I got a truck load of sannd for $100.00 and use that to fill in the holes and so far so good.
Funny thing is that all the chickens like to get on the top perch so I ended up extening it. guess they don't care to be away from there brothers and sisters except the Amercians they seem to stick together over near the nest.

Yes BirdBrain, in the winter I have some concrete blocks that I put a heated dog bowl for water onto and hang the feeder inside. When it's not freezing I put the outside waterer on bricks to raise it up a bit so they don't kick so much dirt into it too. My friends laugh because I made curtains for their window from some chicken print fabric I found at Walmart for $1 / yard. No one goes in the coop but me but I think it looks cheerful. There is a window box on ehe outside of the window and I put flowers in it in the Spring / Summer, fake Autumn colored leaves in the Fall and pine greenery in the Winter. I also hang a Christmas wreath on their door!

We have a lino floor in Duckingham Palace. We use the back of a metal rake to pull the bedding out. It is flat enough to "scrub" at the hard spots without gouging a hole in the lino. And we use the other side to gently stir things up.

Thanks, That would be great!!

Terrie, The kids thought your name for your ducks abode was terrific and came up with a couple more for chickens :

Bawkingham Palace or

Cluckingham Palace -- Both take offs on your coop name.

Wow Brenda,
That is some operation!! I would never have thought about a removable floor, but that looks like it works really great. Thanks for sharing those pictures with us!
