Howdy y'all. I joined BYC a couple years ago, but just realized I never formally introduced myself.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I first got backyard chickens back in 2015 when I lived in Austin, but I had to keep it on the downlow because my HOA didn't permit chickens. Shhh! The stress of potentially being found out, along with the rising cost of living, traffic, increased crime, etc. are reasons I decided to move out to the "country" in the middle of nowhere Missouri.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Right now I've got 1 blue Ameraucana rooster, 1 blue, 1 black and 1 silver Ameraucana hen, 3 Easter Egger hens, 2 EE pullets, 1 PBR hen who just hatched out 10 cute babies (9 BBS Ameraucanas and 1 mix Ameraucana over PBR), and I've got 10 blue eggs in the incubator due to hatch Aug 6th
I've got one larger coop/run (The Defender) for the hens and rooster, a medium coop/run for mama and babies, and my 2 pullets free range in the day and stay in a smaller coop at night.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Ameraucana and EE. I choose the chicks with best features to retain and improve my flock, and sell the rest as Easter Eggers at my local livestock auction.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
I was searching online for information about keeping chickens and this site came up in my search. Loved it immediately!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Gardening, aquaponics, restoring old farmhouses, classic VWs, trains, stock trading
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I'm happily married, have 2 sweet boys, have no other pets. My occupation is environmental toxicology.
