All right, so I'm buying Buff and Light Brahmas next year, and I'm showing the Buffs in a Breeding Class. I'm wondering, however, if it would be all right to show Light Brahmas in Egg Production, without being down-sized. They lay brown eggs, but most people show Brahmas, Cochins and show birds in Breeding Class. A couple of years ago, a girl entered her White Polish in White Egg Production but didn't do well because Polish aren't primarily used for egg purposes. And the same happened to a boy who showed Black Australorps in Meat Production. Would that happen to me with Light Brahmas? Thanks in advance.

It shouldn't be about breed preference but rather how conditioned the birds are and if they are in prime lay production mode. I would say you should enter them and ask the judge what they look for when looking at laying production. One pen of market ducks at my local fair was a trio of hatchery fawn and white runners. The crazy thing is they won Grand Champion Market Duck Pen because they were closest in size to one another compared to all the other pens.

All right, thanks.
