Hi, my name is William Dill and I found this site a few days ago while searching various topics concerning chickens. I originally grew up a city boy but just after high school my parents and I moved to their acreage and a few years later I got a couple acres adjoining them. To summarize they had a number of chickens a bit later and I learned first hand about them, about egg production, and butchering processes. A few years later they were out of the chicken hobby. About 15 or so years ago, I had 25 straight run Araucanas. As I recall, was only into those a couple years. Fast forward to 2017, I am a hobbyist trying to earn some extra money raising and selling in local markets and am trying to decide which breeds to have. I have what one might call a "triplex" for a house. In one section I have an elderly Rhode Island Red rooster, a young Barred Rock rooster, 3 Barred Rock hens, and 9 Cinnamon Queen/Golden Comet hens. In another section I have 4 Red Cochin Bantam roosters awaiting female companions. In the last section I have a Golden Laced Cochin rooster, a Black Copper Maran rooster, 8 Black Maran hens, and 9 Buff Orpington hens. I also have another Golden Comet that went broody so I let her set on some eggs, only one of which hatched. Wasn't sure of the fertility of any of them to begin with. So I will have a buff cochin when it gets grown. And finally, I have in temporary housing separated a Delaware hen, and a rooster that I'm not sure of the breed. I think he is either a second generation Cinnamon Queen, or some sort of cross. He's slightly smaller than the Delaware, but bigger than a Leghorn. So until possums and raccoons get any of them, I have 41 chickens total right now. Plus 5 Grey Toulouse geese (did have 6 but something got one a month or so ago) that are 4 1/2 months old. So there you have it. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your group.
