Hi,
I took in two baby guinea's last night, they had been wandering for a couple hours and their mom was no where in sight. I was concerned they wouldn't make it. I have them set up in a fairly large bin with a heat lamp over it and a bit of hay with a few towels. Last night i got them to drink water out of a very small bowl with marbles in it and eat some chicken feed (all i can find). Last night they were very eager to be held and would fall asleep in my hand. They seem to be fine this morning aside from pecking at each other a little? As there is only those two i shouldn't have to worry about one picking on the other right? Should i avoid holding them and will handling them make them sick? Any other advice on where to go from here is appreciated!

They need a higher protein feed than chicks, around 27%. Cover the top of your brooder, they will flip and fly very early.

You might find they like to cuddle with a plush toy (stuffed animal toy). Holding them isn't bad but once they start to get some energy it might be unsafe to hold them.

Keep reading the forums and you should learn lots!

Welcome!

I'm feeding my guinea keets a combo of game bird starter (28% protein) and chick starter (19% protein). I've read that turkey starter is ideal but I couldn't find it locally. I've never seen my keets peck one another before. Maybe yours are very hungry?
