Looks like two of my girls had a hidden nest of eggs. Yesterday I found NINE eggs in a nest in one of my bushes. We were out of town all week with the neighbors taking care of the girls. Our frizzled cochin got out every day (I still can't figure out how she's getting out). Now I know why.

I don't know how long those eggs were there. Maybe a couple of days. The temps here in N Texas have been in the 100s, but where she laid them is shaded almost the entire day. Should I chunk the eggs? I hate doing that, but I also don't want to be careless. I assume I should...but thought I'd check.

Break them open in a small bowl,, white works best. A bad egg will have a noticable not right smell to it and the white will look slightly green. Don't confuse this with the slight yellow that a fresh egg white can have at times when your birds are free ranging which is perfectly normal. An egg can go a pretty long time,, even in slightly higher heat, before going bad.
