Found a new predator in the coop this morning

It had a good sized plastron, not at all like a snapping turtle. I did not notice hinges in the plastron, but as soon as I dismissed it being a box turtle I didn't look for hinges either. Looked at photos and descriptions of mud and musk turtles. I let the little thing go without washing it and looking for identifying features. So, musk or mud turtle it is (at least I'm satisfied with that).

We don't have wild turtles around here. He is SO cute though. I imagine not so cute invading the chicken coop. I have bunnies everywhere and gophers (oy!) any reason to be REALLY worried about these guys? I mostly worried about Hawks, Raccoons and Coyotes...now THOSE keep me up at night.

I was thinking Musk turtle... did it give off an awful stench when you picked it up? They really can me stinky!
