Unusual situation...there is a rooter in a field down the street from me, no houses around so I think someone "dropped" him off there. My question...do I try and get him and bring him home...I have three hens and a 'quarantine' covered run to keep him in for the time being...or...do I call animal control to pick him up? There is plenty for him to eat, bugs, grass but no water...any words of wisdom??

Well, if you don't already have a rooster but would like to have one for your girls....why not? I say go for it. When you do, however, take it slow. If he is a super-super-aggressive roo you may not want to get him. Take some treat(s) or scratch and see if you can get him to come to you...best of luck and let us know how it goes!

I've had roosters before, both of them became really aggressive, even with the hens so I'm a little gun shy, it just really bugs me that someone would just dump him like that :( I guess I'm hoping it's just because they didn't like the crowing in the morning, I don't mind the noise! He's behind a chain link fence (government land) so it might be difficult to get to him but I plan on keeping an eye on him and bring pellets and water, maybe I'll be able to get him home!
