I found a single egg that was not laid in the nesting boxes, 2 full days (going on 3). Egg is not fertilized (no rooster). No hen was laying on it. But it has been in the 100* here since. Is the egg okay to consume or should it be disposed of? thank you

I discovered an egg in the run at the gate door the other day but I knew for a fact it had been out there for no more than 2 hours. It was almost completely covered with dirt (deep litter method) which actually kept the egg cool. I collected it and scrambled it for the girls to eat. It looked and smelled fine. We have been having 98 - 101 heat indexes for the past two weeks.
