Woke up this morning and found my 2.5 year old SL Wyandotte face down in the nesting box dead around 7:30 am. There were ants already on her and a small amount of dark color liquid on the wall near where she died, which could be blood and possibly could have been there before? Last night when I went out to collect eggs around 7 pm she was walking around in the run with the others. Not sure what it could be as I de wormed all 4 of my chickens with Valbazen back in March. Any ideas of the cause? I looked at the other 3 this morning and they all seem healthy.

Thanks,
Brian

Has she been laying and are you sure? I've lost every single Wyandotte, all SLWs except for one GLW, to internal laying/Egg yolk peritonitis, beginning with the first we found dead with no real warning at just over 2 years of age-when we opened her up, she had loose yolk all in her abdomen.

My friend lost her only two SLWs to the same ailment. Hatchery Wyandottes just don't seem hardy, as far as reproductive issues go.

gosh that's lousy. i have a slw that has been struggling in this heat. 105 last few days. the coop is hot too despite fans. i hope i don't find dead chickens in the coop some morning.
