Found out I'm allowed to have FOUR hens!

sort of... but as I learn more I have changed my mind, then changed it back again.

Here's my list of possibles:

EE for sure

RIR for sure

BO for sure (even though they are scary fluffy, this will be one I raise from day-old I hope, so I'll get used to it)

Red Sussex

Sex-Link

Silkie (MAYBE)

Prolly what will happen is someone will give me one that is not one of these breeds, which is OK... I love surprises!

Yay for you Chicabee19! I'm only "allowed" four hens too. But who's to know if I rescue or adopt a couple more?

These ordinances are making "criminals" out of us!

Good luck with your choices and have fun.

I am so happy about my towns law I can have as many chickens as I want as long as the neighbors don't complain and the free eggs from my 11 hens (right now

) is helping them to keep quite

yeah for you!! Have you gone to mypetchicken.com to do a breed selector based on your needs yet? I highly recommend it! Also, if you want a good laying hen, try the sex links...man o man, they lay and lay! And you will love your BO! They are the sweetest birds, totally mellow! And as another poster said, maybe you can get a way with one more chicken (over the 4 limit) if you get a silkie or a bantam...cuz you know, two of those birds = one standard!

I did when I first joined up here... maybe I should do it again.

I notice they don't give you the option of saying "no" on the questions. "it doesn't matter" and "yes" mean something.... "no" means something entirely different!

I need quiet, feed efficient, winter/summer hardy, good/consistent layers.

I don't want black or all white.

Yes, I was thinking to add a 5th at some point - perhaps a Silkie: I could call it my "rare ground parrot"

(It says they don't lay as often, but from those I've met told me about 5 a week or more and thats better then they had listed.... and so far they are not as small as I thought they would be!)

Well, funny.

I did the "what kind of chicken" test, and this is what came up!:

Delaware, Favarole

I re-did the test, changing some of my answers, and it added these to the list above. The underlined ones are some of the types I was considering:

Astrolorp, Chantaclere, Cubalaya, Easter Egger, Plymouth Rock, RIR, Star, Sussex and Wyandotte.

Not a BO to be seen!
