I thought our hennies were mad about having to forage and stopped laying, but oh how wrong I was… We went from 16+ to 5-8 eggs on a good day. Obviously we’re not going to eat the eggs, but can I feed them back to the girls? Our temps have been high 90s during the day

At least some of the eggs are good. Put them in a bowl of water.

Those that stay on the bottom are still fine. Clean and refrigerate them.
Those that float are past due. Those that stand up on end, I'd cook and give to your birds.

I would think they would be happy about foraging. I’ve never seen a chicken that didn’t like to plunder and scratch.

They free range in our yard, which is fairly weedy and larger for the neighbourhood. I particularly wanted them to be a grasshopper army! It didn’t look like they were doing much to get rid of them… Since I stopped leaving the feeders full, the two groups finally started to mingle and leave their respective tree hideouts. It was just super stressful to try and enjoy time with them because they’d be bugging me for food nonstop lol. I just worried they weren’t getting enough food since we’re not an actual field area

21 eggs hidden in a corner of the run

I understand the free ranging part. I stopped free ranging until everyone lays then, I let them out.. Otherwise, they lay elsewhere and I want their eggs plus I want to make sure they get a balanced diet.
Then in the evening,, I call them to come back home and they come running..lol
I reward them and lock them up for the night.
I guess I'm to protective. Lol

I have one of my girls laying in the spot from Spider Central. They aren't even hers. They belong to the Faverelle who won't go in the coop. Sorry, but I'm not going in to get them. She won't leave the nest.
H to the e-LL NO! Nope, no way. Those eggs would rot before I would get them.

This looks like their newest spot! Behind our shed with the extra fencing stash and way too many wasps, grasshoppers, etc and stash 2 under the biggest thistle known to man lol
