is it normal for a young cockeral to mate a pullet before she begins to lay.will it cause any harm.

Young cockerels are liable to try to mate water jugs. Raging testosterone is the problem. As long as there are not multiple roosters trying to breed the same hen, the cockerel is not excessively larger than the pullets, there are enough pullets to fulfill his needs, and he is not unusually rough his mating should not cause any harm.

i have ended up with three cocks.thanks to tractor supply.i have rehome one, still have two.they are big dominique.the pullets are small.
thats my concern,i have a total of seven females.three hens and four, 4 month old pullets.should i seperate them.

The biggest problem enters in when two or more roosters try to breed a hen at the same time. Torn necks and gashed sides are frequently the end result. If such tag team breeding is going on, I would be tempted to separate the roosters away from the hens.
