Hello all. I have been waiting patiently for 5 weeks to post in this subforum. I really like reading about everyone’s babies and I have learned a lot from reading through the posts.

Anywho, I hatched 14 babies 5 weeks ago and I would like to hear opinions on genders and maybe breed guesses. I know some are cockerels, but I wanted to include their pictures for comparison.

They are all mixes from my flock. I have one BLRW rooster and 11 hens. For hens I have Easter egger, black australorp, Colombian Wyandotte, rose comb leghorn, GLW, black sex link.

Hopefully the pictures attach. If not, I will reply and attempt to add them again. Thanks for looking 😊

Yikes. Lots of males. At this point, pictures 1, 2, 5, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12, and 13 show the cockerels. Keep in mind that the some of the remaining birds may still be slower developing cockerels. :(

For the OP: Update in a few more weeks and we can help sex the remaining. 5 weeks is a little young to say for sure as some cockerels are slower to develop than others.
These are my thoughts as well, but still fun to see other opinions as well.
I see. Any plans with all those cockerels?

I am on the same boat. Have lots of extra cockerels and grow outs.

Sorry, typo: I meant to say 14, not 13 ^

I am suspicious of the bird in picture 7 too, but give it a couple more weeks.

I never anticipated this many boys 😂 My plan was to rehome them when I expected 50% boys. I will still attempt to find homes for them. Maybe everyone that is getting all the pullets from the hatcheries and farm stores will want some boys for their flocks. Gosh I hope so.

Interestingly, your BLRW roo must be heterozygous for the Rose Comb gene, because it seems about half the chicks have single combs.

So does this mean he only carries a copy of the rose comb gene? Therefore the chicks are getting the single comb from the hen? I am terrible in regards to genetics. I wish my brain could absorb info about it, but I struggle.

Yes, you're correct.
