Hi I have a complicated hen that has a leg disease of some kind but has managed to live a relatively good/normal life … roosting, eating, walking around with her flock. Anyhoo I noticed her acting off and also noticed these lumps on her head. I can’t find any more in her body. Does this look like fowl pox or what else could it be?

It is hard to know exactly, but I don’t see any fowl pox. The left ear appears swollen and abscessed. The other scabs may be growths that sometimes happen with certain viruses, including leukosis and Mareks. But no one would be able to tell for sure unless you had a necropsy doen by your state vet if she dies. They can do additional testing.

As far as the ear goes, I would try to clean out the ear canal with hydrogen peroxide and Q Tips. You may have to pick off the scab first. Let us know if the scab is not at the ear opening. Then you can apply some plain antibiotic ointment into the canal. Let us know what you find. I am not a vet, just a chicken owner like yourself. Look her over for any lice or mites running around on her skin under the
vent and elsewhere.

Ok not sure about hens ears… is this the opening? I tried to clean the scab off but it’s pretty firmly on there… didn’t want to continue if it wasn’t even the ear hole 😬
After inspecting the scab in the back of her neck it’s a pretty large bump/tumor (?) type thing underneath the skin ….
