Fox Killing Cats

My male Tabby was laying in the yard by my house and a big Red Fox came up our driveway and I couldn't wait to see the confrontation. The cat never moved and the Fox layed down a foot from him and stayed there 10 min. then they lookked at each other and the Fox slowly walked away.
However, last month a Cayote killed my Main Coon Cat and there was one bad fight. The cat lost but only after a long fight.
I set my game camera up and got the picture of a Fox carrying a cat by its shoulder.Then I saw the beast that killed my cat.... the biggest Cayote I have ever seen.I shot the big Red Fox and I really regret it but it was under dim light and it was a hugh male. I thought for sure I had the Cayote.
I will continue the rest of my like until I kill this thing. I will not kill another Fox I don't like killing anything but the Cat was the sweetest one I had ever seen.
I am a Retired Forest Range with 30 years experience and I am not ruleing out a Fox takeing a cat but I know my Tabby had one as a friend and he is 21 years old now and don't go out.

Where I live we do have foxes that will kill cats but only if they are hungry enough. Usually late fall/ early winter.

Very sorry for you loss. Last summer I lost a 6 month old kitten to a bobcat. The biggest predator of my cats has been cars. But I am always on the watch to make sure foxes, bobcat and coyotes don't get too close. I have learned that a barnyard has a protection hierarchy. At the bottom are ducks and chickens, and they take care of the bugs, ticks etc. Then we have the cats, and they take care of the mice, chipmunks, squirrels and birds (not the chickens and ducks!). Then you have the dogs, which protect the cats from foxes, coyotes, bobcats etc. I was missing the dog part of the equation. So we are looking for a LGD
