It was about 8:00 and I decided to shoosh my chickens into the coop for the night. Well, I got them inside and closed the door to the run, and they started freaking out. They acted like they still wanted to be outside and were upset. The one was up on the ledge running around pecking at the windows where you could still see the light coming in. Four others were crowded at the entrance to the run. All of them were making that pathetic whining sound.

Was it wrong to push them inside early? My run is not yet completely enclosed, so they can easily fly up into the surrounding trees, as one did the other night. Anyway, they were freaking out, and I'm wondering why. They acted like they were not at all ready to go inside.

Any suggestions? I hate to see them so agitated. You'd think that I was torturing them or something!!

thats how my girls act when i bring them in side at the end of the day like it is the worse thing ever they try and squees out the bars and chirp and make a rukas for about 10 min beofre they relize they have to wait till am to go back out it brakes my heart but safty comes first :)

It's good to know that someone else's chickens act the same way. Like I said, you'd think I was pulling their feathers out. They get so agitated by it. But yes, they settle down. By morning, they act completely normal - ready to go again.

I don't know how you have your coop set up, i have mine set as a coop and run with a auto door set on a timer great thing to have and the top enclosed so i can let mine chicks go in and out by there self. and that keeps them happy never here them churping mad any more.

For the first few days or so after I add new chicks to my coop I always go out at night to make sure they find their way from the run to the coop. The first group to go out fussed when I put them in at night for a couple days until they realized it was warmer in there than sitting outside on the ground. Now they go in on their own as the sun starts to drop behind the trees.
