I have an EE rooster that is about 4 months old. I love him and want to see him go to a happy new home. He started working on his beautiful crow around 4 weeks old and we really love hearing him throughout the day. He eats a full organic diet and "free ranges" in a protected coop run (more to protect my chickens from my dog). He loves his girls and protects them. I would absolutely keep him and put up with his signs of aggression, but I have a 2 year old that enjoys going into the coop with me and I cannot risk her getting attacked by a rooster just doing his job.

Welcome to BYC, and good luck in finding him a home. Very good of you to point out his aggressive nature so any prospective 'takers' are aware.

Yes! I would be willing to meet you somewhere. Where in north jersey are you? I am new to chickens so I don’t know how to logistically transport a rooster or to exchange hands (meaning, he would have to be in some sort of container that I don’t need back, like a cardboard box with holes). May I ask why you’re looking for a rooster?

Lol yes I suppose having him in a box you could give me would be good, but I’ve usually just picked up the chicken/rooster and put it in a box or crate. Is he difficult to handle? I’m looking to have him lead a flock of blue and green egg layers. I’m in Randolph.

Ohh, he would love that! He seems to be a natural born leader!

Once you catch him he’s not too difficult to handle... it’s been a few weeks since I’ve caught him, and truthfully haven’t tried since he started showing some signs of aggression because I didn’t want to stress him out (like I said, I’m new to this so no idea if that instinct was right or not). He has only tried “coming at me” 3 times now, but backs down if I put my foot out and he bounces off. Then he lets me go about my business. With people he’s less familiar with, he will try several times and bounce off their foot, then backs down. He lets me pick up the girls but looks a bit worried when I do that.

I did spend a lot of time holding all of my chickens from the very beginning but they’ve gotten harder to catch as they’ve gotten bigger - especially him!

Hopefully that gives you an idea for his temperament... I don’t know if that’s considered easy to handle or not! He doesn’t just hop up in your lap...
