Was offered these two beauties, promptly said yes.

I arranged pickupat dusk, come daylight hours noticed they are both suffering severe scale mite. Mangled nails, puffy crusty skin and feather sprout. One (the lighter hue) is particularly bad. You'll see she is not favouring that leg.

Heres the strategy.

1. Diatemaceous earth bathe both birds and pen weekly.
2. Olive oil dip the affected feet daily.
3. Clip talons that are corkscrewed

Am I missing anything and can the strategy be tuned up? Im quite smitten on these two especially.

You could bathe them. The idea is that live mites will drown. Eggs wont, but they also can't develops an immunity to water like they can to some.medicines applied too often

Bathe as in just mild soapy water styles?

One person recommended for extreme cases gasoline and then paraben creme. Seems pretty extreme.

Honestly for this you technically could just use water. Not even soap, it's more to clean the bird than drown the mites

Scaly leg mites can be treated by applying oil to the legs to smother them, twice a week. Some used are mineral oil (liquid paraben,) petroleum jelly, castor oil, crisco shortening, etc. Some soak the legs in warm soapy water and loosen the scales with an old toothbrush before applying oil. Ivermectin can be used to treat leg mites as well.
