My 22 week old Jersey Giant Rooster just started breeding the girls and is way too big for them and injured one today. I think he would be fine with girls his own size, but he has two favorites that are very small and is way too much for them.

He is going through a molt now so is not all that pretty. He has an interesting crow (kind of sounds like a wolf howling) and is fine to be around. He avoids me but if I can corner him and pick him up he does not bite or peck. He just minds his own business. He was a late bloomer and has just started caring for his girls....other than the breeding/size issue, I would definitely keep him as he is no trouble at all.

I am near Knoxville and would drive a reasonable distance to pass him over.

Like I said, he is going through a molt so is not very pretty. His tail feather are just starting to come back and some of his neck feathers as well. Some of the girls picked off some of the feathers on his neck so he has a few bald patches.

Nice boy though. Bought as a pullet from TSC.

I would love for him to find a pet home since he is actually a nice boy, but he definitely needs bigger girls. I would not consider him breeding material for Jersey Giants, definitely hatchery quality with some faults. But a good pet!

I would love to have him but its too far to drive. He would make a great pet. I'm trying to go to all Jersey Giants.

Hey! I think I've only got 4 boys so I might consider taking him...I'd like to wait another week or two to make sure all the rest of mine are pullets though. If so maybe we can meet up somewhere!

Well, let me know if you do want him. I hope you have some big girls around. He is in with a Jersey Giant girl the same age who is about the same size, but I have yet to see him bothering her. The other girls he is with are barely taller than his legs and he won't leave them alone now.

He is spending the day loose in the regular yard, with the girls locked in the coop area.

I can get a picture of me holding him (within a few days) if someone wants to figure out his size. He is about 2 feet tall (ground to head) when he is standing normally. He is actually closer to 21 weeks than 22 weeks....I expect him to continue growing for at least another few months. I have not weighed him, but he is heavy. I did get a fertile egg yesterday out of a leghorn girl, so he is apparently making the size difference work for him (the girls aren't very appreciative though) regardless.

I will be advertising him on craigslist this weekend as well. He is not cuddly in any way, more standoffish than anything else. He has a healthy respect for people and will avoid you if nothing else. I made a girl squawk in the pen yesterday and he was watching us but not willing to get any closer to me do do anything about it. He will run up for treats, of course.

I like his attitude but can't deal with his size, considering my smaller girls.

Here are new pictures of the Giant Rooster.

As you can see, his girls are a bit small (they are uphill).

Anybody?

I've decided to try and make it work for now and my big guy is no longer available. Just hate to part with such a good boy who the girls just love. We'll see how it works out! I will post here if he becomes available again.

eta: I have found an alternate home available with a friend for him just in case it does not work out with me, so this thread can be closed permanently.
