I have 15 guineas that I raised from day old. They are 9 weeks old. I started letting them out about 2 weeks ago. They free range for 2-4 hours per day & most evenings come back to coop pretty good. The problem is I have 5 acres & they won't go more than about 100 ft from the coop. I want them in the area around my house to deter or eat snakes. My 5 acres is surrounded by trees with open areas in the middle. I try to herd them to other areas & they just fly back to coop area. Will they move around more as they get older or should I keep trying to get them to other areas of the property? They have no adults to teach them so I'm it.

Mine got to where they would go about 200/250 yards away. Mainly made a big circle every day around a big field. But the hawks/something got most of them. The last flock I hatched, stayed in a netted top pen the whole time I had them. I hatched all their eggs and sold the babies. When I cut back---I let them go.

It is my experience that they get bolder and increase their range with age.

By next spring you'll be posting about how to keep them on your 5 acres.
