Free range time vs run time

Hi everyone,
My six 13.5 week old pullets spend most of their daylight time free ranging now- the routine varies slightly depending on the day but they are out in the yard for the most part. As a result, their time in the run is limited. I notice when it rains or when they are scared, instead of running to their coop/run, they hide under the deck which has become like their hangout spot. If I want to train them to treat the run like they currently treat under the deck- would you just keep them in there for longer each day? Keep the run door open all day? Any other ideas? I basically want them to look to the coop/run as their safe zone/home base.

Mine were in their run pretty much all winter. Now they're out and about all day every day. When the weather turns unfriendly they take shelter in the nearest spot--barn, trees, under the deck... I don't think they fail to look to their coop/run as a safe spot, but it's not their daytime hangout. They go inside and back out for their own mysterious reasons, all day long. At night they go in on their own. I don't think it's anything worrisome or any indication they feel unsafe.

Do you normally close the run door while they are out ranging?
Might be cooler under the deck than in the run.
What does your run look like?
