are ducks like chickens in that that will go back to there pen at night? have never let mine out of there pen, its roomy but I'd like them to roam the yard.

I let my ducks out every morning, and every evening at dusk they're back in their house...of their own free will. As long as your ducks know where "home" is, they'll be fine.

Mine, too. They spend the day on/by a pond that is about a hundred yards away from their house. Every evening they come up and walk up the ramp to their hutch and settle themselves in for the night. They quack like crazy to remind me to come close the door. I had problems with them not coming in until after dark this spring, but then one got eaten by some (unknown) predator, and since that happened, they seem to understand that it's dangerous out there at night, and they come in at dusk.

Mine get herded in at night with no problems. Once you start walking them towards their pen, they automatically go in.

Mine are let out in the morning...they run down to the creek for the whole day. When it is about to get dark I go down to the coop and they are standing outside the fence waiting to be fed!
