My girls are almost 1 and they are just starting to get back in the swing of things on the egg front. They spend the night in the coop but have run of the world during the day. Are they going to end up laying their eggs here and there outside, or will they go back to the coop to do it? Is there any way to keep them laying in their egg boxes? I have been keeping them in the coop till a little later in the am, but they are less than thrilled about that.

Mine free range on about 3 acres and start fussing and running back to the coop when it is time to lay. Other than the very rare egg in the middle of the bed of irises the eggs are in the nest boxes. If they tend to lay earlier in the day, leave them in or around the coop until they've layed a few eggs in the boxes. You can also leave a rock, golf ball, egg in the nest boxes so they see that is where they go.

Other then my Crystal, all of my girls lay thier eggs in the coop. They have a couple of acres to roam on, but they all go running. Crystal...well ive just given up on her LOL No matter what I do she refuses to lay in the coop.

Almost all of mine lay in the egg boxes. However, I did have a hen go awol for about 3 weeks until my neighbor told me she was laying on some eggs in his fishing boat. She ended up hatching 7 boat babies.
