Free-ranging adult turkeys

Hi all!

I'm new to the turkey world (have peafowl, chickens, geese and pigeons) and got 2 adult Royal Palms (Tom and hen) about 2 months ago. They are both a little over a year old, and I've been keeping them up since I've had them. I let my chickens and geese free-range while I'm home during the day, and wondered how realistic it would be that my RPs could free range too? I got them as adults, and as far a I know they've never been allowed to roam around outside of their cages ever before. They pace back and forth at the door of their cage a lot, longing to be let out, but I'm so scared I'll lose them. Any advice? All other feathered creatures I've let free-range I've had since babies, so they were easy to wrangle and not keen on traveling far from me or their pens. Thanks!

I think they would probably be alright! Maybe start them out slow put up a temporary run around their pen and let them adventure out slow,start out about half hour before dark they won't go far and will be ready to go back in for the night.

! Great to have you here! This is my first year with turkeys but I've found them to be the ultimate home bodies. The chickens I have actually range more than the turkeys. You might post in the turkey thread below for some more advice. Good luck to you!

the only problem I've heard with free ranging turkeys is they tend to roost in trees at night rather than the safety of a coop.
